The age-old question of what is more important, time or money goes back centuries? As potential business owners or investors ponder new opportunities, what does the pecking order of priorities look like? The place to start is where are you in your life? Everyone wants to hang out and have fun, but a lack of money makes most people simply have weekends to relax and than rejoin the grind the following Monday.
I remember graduating college feeling a sense of pride and excitement as I was about to finally be ‘grown’ up. Unfortunately, as many first jobs go, there was work, sleep, work, sleep and very little money at the end of the month for my sacrifices. After grinding through the initial months, I vented to my dad, mostly to have him feel sorry for me and cough up some cash, unfortunately he didn’t, but he did relay a message that has stuck with me for over 20 years. He said son, you don’t have enough money to have any free time. What he was referring too, even though I was working, supporting myself, my free time was spent on the usual things kids in your early 20’s spend their money on, which is fun!! I had lots of that, but was leaking financial oil. It’s easy for your twenties to turn into your thirties and still be stuck on the same hamster wheel.
What his comments made me realize is I either had to work more or get better skills to increase my value to my employer and customers. I went back to school and also started coaching, both major investments that first allowed me to not spend any money since I physically had little time. Then I started saving, learning and climbing the corporate ladder as my experience, relationships and business acumen grew. The moral of the story is without the right sources of income coming in, freeing up your time is very difficult unless you pursue high risk, high reward ventures. Our goal is to meet you where you are, maybe doing what I did is the right decision, but I wish I had someone to help me understand how your own business can help accomplish the same objectives of increasing your earnings at the same time creating more and more free time for you to enjoy what’s important in your life.
Let us work together to find your future.
